Awhile ago, we posted a video of a DMM brand carabiner being made. This is a shorter video of how a Black Diamond ‘biner is made. When I see all the hand work necessary to make one, I am amazed at how cheaply they are sold.
I am an engineer in a manufacturing facility and I have to say that is a very simple process. If anything, I'd say they charge too much.
