This will keep out the riff raff.....

April 10, 2009: VEGA

To our customers, members and friends,

Due to new state insurance requirement regulations beyond our control, Vertical Endeavors Guided Adventures (VEGA) will no longer be able to conduct guided lessons and trips at the following areas in the state of Minnesota. These areas include Interstate Park at Taylors Falls, Blue Mounds State Park near Luverne, Shovel Point, Palisade Head in Tettagouche State Park and Carlton Peak. The Department of Natural Resource and Minnesota Department of Administration raised their insurance liability limit requirements for commercial guiding requiring an amount that is just not reasonable for our industry.

VEGA will continue to provide lessons and trips at Red Wing and Sandstone, Minnesota, Devils Lake, Wisconsin, Black Hills of South Dakota and Devils Tower, Wyoming.

Rest assured that Vertical Endeavors and the Climbing Wall Association (CWA) will continue negotiating with the DNR on this matter. We are hopeful that we will be able find a solution to this issue in the near future. We are also very concerned that this action by the state of Minnesota could set a precedent throughout the US, thus having a huge impact on commercial guiding in the United States.

Pat Mackin / Director of Guiding for Vertical Endeavors

I do have a personal opinion on this but I don't think I will blog it...yet.
