This Is Old School

M-E-woodenwedgeOn the allegedly first successful attempt at climbing Cerro Torre in Patagonia in 1959,  they used wooden wedges (shown here in a photo from 1975) to protect some of the pitches.

This article indicates that the first ascensionists lied about making it to the summit. An ongoing controversy in the Alpine world.
