1st Real Day at Black Hills

The other post was a joke. It's been raining here since 8PM Thursday night. We're writing this in the library at Custer while we wait for our clothes to dry out. They are very nice here and don't mind our clothesline strung between the shelves.

Here's what we've had all day.

We did hike around checking out climbing areas such as Moonlight Ridge and Cathedral Spires. Here's a photo of John walking past the Spires. Can you see the tall rocks in the distance. We couldn't.

Despite the rain and fog, I wish I was there. As legend has it, aid climbing was invented when two climbers visited the Needles and had nothing but bad weather. Not being able to grasp the rock, and after a few sips of Jim Beam, the climbers decided to do whatever it takes to get to the top of a few routes. Thus ascenders, gri-gri's, hooks, copperheads, daisy chains and AA were invented. Good luck guys!
